BERHAMPUR: Administrative and health officials with the help of the police seized an unregistered nursing home running secretly at the heart of the city on Tuesday night. The nursing home was running without any signboard behind a diagnostics centre at Gajapatinagar Square, a few hundred metres away from MKCG Medical College Hospital. On Tuesday, the officials raided the diagnostics centre. As staff of the diagnostics centre were not present, the officials locked up the centre. In the night, they received information that several patients were inside the centre. It was a surprise for the officials as they found none at the diagnostics centre when they locked it up. They raided it again. To their astonishment they found a nursing home being run behind the centre. Two quacks attached to the nursing home were taken into custody for questioning. They were produced before the metropolitan magistrate on Wednesday. They claimed that they had applied for registration. Patients rescued from the nursing home claimed that doctors from MKCG Medical College were treating patients there. Chief District Medical Officer R.B. Gochayat said even operations were being conducted by hired doctors at the nursing home. The officials also seized an ultrasound machine from the nursing home.
