PONNANI: The police have arrested two more persons accused in the murder of Shihab. Many persons were arrested and a dozen others rounded up for questioning in connection with the murder of Shihab during a robbery at Nadakkavu, near Edappal, on November 22, 2006. Shihab was waylaid by an eight-member gang at Naduvattom while travelling in a car with the collection amount of Kalliyath Steels. The gang stabbed Shihab and fled with his car. Shihab succumb to his wounds. The assailants were unable to locate the money hidden under the seat of the car and discarded the car on the highway. Panikkavalappil Veettil Sreedharan alias ‘Kodali’ Sreedharan, a gang leader engaged in robbing hawala carriers, was arrested in Bangalore. The police also arrested the eight gangsters. Ponnani Circle Inspector P. Vikraman on Wednesday arrested Sreejit alias Akadi Sreejit, 22, son of Gopalakrishnan, of Theeyath House, Ollur, in Thrissur district and Zubair K, 40. Zubair alias Ikka, son of Zainuddin, belonging to K.S. Manzil, Joseph Road, Vellayil, Kozhikode, was part of the conspiracy. The First Class Magistrate Court at Tirur adjourned to Thursday the hearing on a police plea demanding that ‘Kodali’ Sreedharan be remanded to custody for 10 days. The police said questioning the accused would throw light on the hawala operations in the State.
