KASARAGOD: The municipal authorities had not removed garbage from the town for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday. Heaps of garbage emitting foul smell have risen in various parts of the town including the busy M.G. Road and New Bus Station premises. Garbage removal was affected after authorities of the nearby Kelugudde panchayat objected to disposing of garbage in the dumping grounds there. The panchayat pointed out that filthy water flowing out of the dumping grounds was posing problem to the panchayat residents. Treatment plant
The panchayat is demanding that the municipality construct a garbage treatment plant in the dumping ground. Meanwhile, the municipal authorities noted that the panchayat was denying permission to build a treatment plant in the five-acre plot purchased by it at Kollamganam in the panchayat. The panchayat is insisting that the plant be constructed in the trenching ground at Kelugudde itself. The difference of opinion between the panchayat and the municipality had stalled the garbage removal process earlier this year too.
