Creating stir: Activists of Left parties staging ‘rasta roko’ to support their leader’s fasting for house sites for the poor in Anantapur on Wednesday
ANANTAPUR: The indefinite fast by a dozen leaders of the CPI and CPI (M) demanding house sites, houses and land for cultivation to the poor continued on the third day on Wednesday here. They launched the fast on Monday in support of their State leaders’ similar protest launched in Hyderabad on Sunday. Several organisations, including workers and trade unions, other associations and frontal organisations of the two Left parties staged protests in support of the indefinite fast. The activists of CPI and CPI (M) staged ‘rasta roko’ at 27 places in the district and CPI activists staged ‘rail roko’ here by detaining the Guntur-Yeshwanthpur passenger train. The employees and workers of the Anantapur Municipal Corporation took out a procession. Activists of All India Democratic Women’s Association, Centre of Indian Trade Unions, AP Rajaka Vruttidarula Sangham visited the protest camp. Speaking at the ‘rasta roko’ town secretary of the CPI (M) V. Rambhupal alleged that the Government was neglecting the indefinite hunger strike launched by the Left parties. Also, 73 CPI (M) activists launched indefinite fasts at 13 places on Tuesday.
