Villagers picket road

THENI: Residents of Kullappagoundenpatti locked the Kallar School in their village and picketed the road in front of it on Wednesday. They were condemning the inordinate delay in appointing teachers.

Led by Kullappagoundenpatti panchayat president Ponnuthai, a group of residents said that the school had only a headmaster and two teachers. Police and revenue officials spoke to the agitators. Later, a special tahsildar, in-charge of Kallar Schools in Madurai region, promised them that sufficient teachers would be appointed within six months.
