HASSAN: Inaugurating a five-day training programme for select candidates of 44 drivers, 22 conductors, 13 mechanics and 12 junior assistants of Hassan Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Division here on Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police H. Rudrappa said that most of the road accidents are due to negligence, technical fault in the bus and bad roads. “Be calm. Take the right judgment. Be punctual. Have a good family life. When a passenger boards your bus, his life is in your hands. Think of the family members when their only bread earner dies in an accident. They will curse you. Give good education to your children. Care for your family members. Then only you can be calm while driving,” he advised them. Earlier welcoming them, Principal, Regional Training College, Hassan, A. Gopinath said, “Now-a-days KSRTC is organising de-addiction camps for its staff so that they can stop drinking. Yoga training is given. Behave politely with passengers. Drivers and conductors are the pillars of the KSRTC.” Divisional Controller B.C. Ganganna Gowda said that every year KSRTC is paying Rs. 30 crore to Rs. 40 crore as compensation to accident victims. “By paying compensation, you cannot bring back the dead. The compensation will not console the victim who is crippled for rest of his life,” he said. Mr. Ganganna Gowda advised them to change their way of life. Works Manager, Regional Workshop, P.R. Mahajan, said training would be a regular process.
