BELLARY: “Leave us in peace and let the people of Bellary live in peace,” was the appeal made by Kolur Basavanagowda, former Bellary MP, to the politicians of Andhra Pradesh, especially the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). In a statement released to the press here on Wednesday, he said that the intention of the group of TDP legislators to visit the Obulapuram Mining Company, held by G. Janardhan Reddy, suspended BJP MLC, recently has not only caused confusion but has also vitiated the atmosphere. It has created unwanted tension in Bellary. He was of the view that the TDP leadership had thrown all courtesy to the winds when a group of legislators tried to enter the mines area defying the ban orders in force besides filing a complaint with the Karnataka police that the team of legislators were harassed by Andhra Pradesh police personnel and ill-treated them on the Karnataka side of the border. Recalling the statement of Mr. Janardhan Reddy that he had obtained the lease of the mines during the tenure of N. Chandrababu Naidu and felt that the TDP legislators could have verified the facts before crying wolf. The visit to the mines by the TDP team was uncalled for, he said. Meanwhile, a team of officials visited the State border to find out whether the ill-treatment and arrest of TDP legislators by Andhra Pradesh police , as alleged by TDP deputy leader in a complaint to the Karnataka police, had occurred on the State border.
