HYDERABAD: A large number of activists belonging to the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) led by its president Manda Krishna proposed to sit through the night at Indira Park on Wednesday demanding a firm commitment from the State Government to the organisation’s demands.

Mr. Krishna announced in his address to the participants past 8 p.m. that the sit-in would continue the whole night and they would march to the Assembly from the venue on Thursday.

If the State Government took the initiative to resolve the issue, a delegation would proceed for talks.

The mob started gathering around noon and remained at the venue till night awaiting the Government’s response to the demands to postpone counselling for admissions to medical colleges and withhold proposed recruitment to fill up 10,000 State Government posts until categorisation was completed.

Mr. Krishna said the demands of MRPS were nothing new as Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had committed to get the report of Usha Mehra Commission for categorisation of SCs within two months.

Dr. Reddy had also committed to introduce categorisation of SCs in educational institutions from the present academic year. Contrary to the promise, Dr. Reddy shot off a letter requesting Centre to prune the term of the commission from one year to three months, he alleged. Even considering Dr. Reddy’s latest initiative, only 25 days were left for the Government to keep up its promise but no concrete steps were taken in the direction, he alleged.

Earlier, Mr. Krishna called on Home Minister K. Jana Reddy to complain the detention of MRPS activists by the police in districts.
