Land assignment norms not violated, says K.P. Rajendran Opposition has nothing else to raise: Chief Minister
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Assembly witnessed noisy exchanges between the treasury and Opposition benches on Wednesday over the latter’s allegation that the AKG Centre for Research and Studies, the State headquarters of the CPI(M), is in possession of land in excess of what was assigned to it as it had encroached on the premises of the Kerala University. The Opposition sought to raise the issue through an adjournment motion sought to be moved by Joseph M. Puthussery (KC-M) and others, but had to be satisfied with a submission, only to be told by Revenue Minister K. P. Rajendran that the CPI(M) had neither violated the land assignment norms nor had it encroached on anybody’s land. Treasury bench members repeatedly interrupted Mr. Puthussery’s attempt to make the submission and they continued with this strategy when Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy rose to speak on the subject. Mr. Chandy, however, felt that this was nothing short of admission that there was excess land with the AKG Centre. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan accused the Opposition of having come up with the allegation when it had nothing else to raise in the form of an adjournment motion.
