Two-level parking for Palika Place

Staff Reporter

‘Need for fire safety measures there’

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday instructed the New Delhi Municipal Council to chalk out a plan of action for development of a two-level automatic parking complex at Palika Place on Pachkuian Road to overcome the acute parking problem there.

Ms. Dikshit, who visited Palika Place along with NDMC Chairperson Parimal Roy, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Director C.B.K. Rao and other senior officials, also expressed concern over lack of fire safety measures there. She said Palika Place was prone to fires because of the presence of a large number of furniture shops in the complex. As for the parking, she said the views of the local traders would also be taken into consideration while giving final touches to the plan so that their difficulties could be resolved.

The Chief Minister also directed the DMRC and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to ensure better maintenance of the MCD road near R.K. Ashram metro railway station that is yet to be transferred back to the MCD by the DMRC.

She also instructed the DMRC and the Delhi police to remove encroachments from the central verge below DMRC lines and develop them more aesthetically.
