Commemoration: Air Commodore S.N. Muthalik holding the ‘Kargil Shradhanjali Chakra’ after he received it from the Citizens’ Society of India in Bangalore on Wednesday.
BANGALORE: Speaker Krishna and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa paid rich tributes to the heroes of the Kargil war who made the supreme sacrifice while defending the country’s borders eight years ago. July 26 is being observed as ‘Kargil Vijay Divas’ to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan’s misadventure in Kargil. Mr. Krishna handed over the “Kargil Shradhanjali Chakra” to S.C. Bhandari, secretary-general, Citizens’ Society of India at a function at the Speaker’s chamber at the Secretariat here on Wednesday. A six-member delegation would hand over the “Kargil Shradhanjali Chakra” to the service chiefs in New Delhi on Thursday. In a message, Mr. Bhandari said, “our nation faces the greatest challenge of protecting the line of control at Kargil and nearby border as the armed forces are fighting to repulse aggression. The families that suffer the loss of their dear ones in the war is irreparable and the void created can never be filled.” Mr. Yediyurappa said the Kargil war boosted the morale of the defence personnel posted on the border. Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna and members of the Citizens’ Society of India were present.
