President Pratibha Patil
JAIPUR: Bharat Nirman, a national charitable organisation engaged in revival of ancient sciences and propagation of the Indian way of life, on Wednesday welcomed the swearing-in of Pratibha Patil as the country’s new President, saying her “profound faith” in astrology and spirituality would herald a new era of research in these disciplines and enrich Indian life. Nirmala Sevani, an astrologer and adviser to Bharat Nirman, told reporters at the Pink City Press Club here that Ms. Patil’s interest in ancient Indian culture, reflected in her remarks in the run-up to the Presidential election, would help promote age-old disciplines such as yoga, meditation, astrology, palmistry, numerology, Vaastu and Nadigyan in the country during her term as the Head of State. “Ms. Patil has depicted her deep faith in ancient Indian sciences and has been in constant touch with astrologers. We sincerely hope that her consultations with the practitioners of esoteric sciences would ensure a respectable place for these branches of knowledge,” said Ms. Sevani. The Bharat Nirman functionaries, including its convenor R. Bhandari, especially praised the new President’s knowledge of scientific aspects of astrology as well as her recent call for application of science and technology to the “serious and deep subject” to meet the growing expectations of people in view of its great influence on their lives. Ms. Patil, while launching an astrology website as Rajasthan Governor during an event organised by Bharatiya Prachya Jyotish Sansthan at Raj Bhavan here, had called upon Indian scholars to study and assess the possible impact of new astronomical findings about planets – such as their number and the status of Pluto – on astrological calculations. Mr. Bhandari expressed the hope that the highest Constitutional functionary evincing a keen interest in the basic Indian sciences, systems, values and wisdom would inspire the citizens at large to strive to achieve “harmony between body, mind and soul”: “Ms. Patil taking over as the President is set to restore India’s ancient glory and equip the country to emerge as the world leader once again”. Bharat Nirman will be holding a “Mystique World-2007” exhibition here from August 3 to 6 to showcase techniques to ensure a spiritually rich, healthy, stress-free and prosperous life. Mr. Bhandari said the mega show would highlight the ancient Indian wisdom that had the capacity to mould people’s lives.
