SHIMLA: Changing her stance from “Bahujan Samaj” to “Sarvjan Samaj” now, Bahujan Samaj Party leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday said that the economically weaker sections of upper caste society should also be given reservation like the Other Backward Classes and Dalits. According to reports from Dharamsala, she announced at a press conference in the Himachal hill town that the new reservation formula would be implemented in U.P. Subsequently, she added, the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre would be pressurised to implement it in all other States. Welcoming former Congress leader Vijay Singh Mankotia and other senior Congressmen into her party, she said the BSP would fight all the 68 seats in the next Himachal Assembly elections and not go in for an alliance with other parties. Ms. Mayawati is going to address a Sarvjan Samaj rally on Thursday where she would declare Major Mankotia as the head of her party’s Himachal unit. Copies of Mr. Mankotia’s resignation from the Himachal Vidhan Sabha were distributed to media persons on Wednesday. Ms. Mayawati was accompanied by her close confidant S. C. Mishra.
