Veturi Sundara Rama Murthy
GUNTUR: Acharya Nagarjuna University will present honorary doctorate to eminent Telugu lyricist Veturi Sundara Rama Murthy and two others during its 28th convocation on August 3. A champion of Dalit literature and a social reformer Katti Padma Rao and Guntur-based Chartered Accountant Vadlamani Venkata Subrahmanya Ravi would also receive honorary doctorate for excellence in their areas of contribution to society, Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohandas told reporters here on Wednesday. Convocation address
Prof. Balamohandas said that Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education Chairman Kalluri Chenchi Reddy would deliver the convocation address and be the chief guest. Veteran of some 10,000 songs, Veturi, who hails from Peddakallepalli in Krishna district, worked as a journalist also from 1960 to 1967 in Andhra Patrika and Andhra Prabha and authored several books on music and l iterature. “Honouring such a personality is an privilege of the university,” Prof. Balamohandas said. Hailing from Etheru near Bapatla in Guntur district, Mr. Padma Rao worked hard for protecting the rights of the downtrodden in society. Founder of the Andhra Pradesh Rationalists’ Association in 1976, he also launched the AP Dalit Mahasabha in 1985 and was a recipient of several awards for his writings. Recipient of the Best Rotary District Governor in the World award, Mr. Vadlamani Ravi was associated with several social activities apart from being a partner in the State’s one of the top-most Chartered Accountant companies. In addition to these, 19 Ph.Ds, 97 M.Phils and 94 gold medals would be presented on the occasion at the Lankapalli Bullaiah Indoor Stadium on the campus.
