Chargesheet against Hasina

DHAKA: The police have filed a chargesheet in an extortion case against the jailed Awami League chief and former Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court here. The formal charge was also framed against her sister, Sheikh Rehana, and cousin and party presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim. The case was filed on June 13 and the charge sheet given on July 25, in the shortest possible time.

The prime accused in this case is Mr. Selim, but later Ms. Hasina and her sister, who lives in London, were also made accused. The three are accused of taking Taka 2.99 crores from a businessman.

Ms. Hasina was arrested on July 16 and detained in a sub-jail here. Despite a state of emergency, continued protests are reported from across the country against the arrest.
