‘Salaam India Expo’ in Singapore from August 15

Held to commemorate India’s 60th year of independence

CHENNAI: To commemorate India’s sixtieth year of independence, Zak Trade Fairs & Exhibition and Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is organising ‘Salaam India Expo’ in Singapore from August 15 to 19, that would showcase the best of Indian companies, products and services.

The first day will be marked by a well-known industrialist delivering the Global Business Leaders Lecture. The next day will witness discussions by captains of Indian industry, academicians and celebrities on various subjects such as India: Powerhouse of the 21st century: myth or reality, India’s infrastructure: boon or bane, India’s healthcare industries: potential & prospects, Entrepreneurial opportunities in India, among other topics.

Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw will discuss about the “Collaborative opportunities in biotechnology,” Infosys founder N. R. Narayana Murthy will talk on his pet subject “Collaborating CH-INDIA,” MP-elect Kanimozhi on the “Power of Indian Youth,” and Shoba De will dwell on the “Changing face of India.”

The Hindu Editor-in-Chief N. Ram and Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Subodh Kanth Sahay will share the dais to talk on the subject “Cutting Edge: India” to be moderated by Suhasini Maniratnam.

Concurrently, the opening day will also witness the commencement of the Indian Food Festival that would satisfy the taste buds of food lovers. According to Zak Exhibitions (Singapore) Chairman and Managing Director Syed Zakir Ahmed, around 200 Indian firms from 12 sectors have come forward to exhibit products and services to buyers from ASEAN region, the largest source from India. This event sponsored by STB, Singapore India Chamber of Commerce and Industry and High Commission of India in Singapore had generated enough enquiries.

Talking to The Hindu on Tuesday from Singapore, Suhasini Maniratnam said, “this is the first time I am joining hands with Zak Trade to showcase the best opportunities in India. I am also making a maiden foray into the conferen ce scene by organising it. On August 16, I am presenting a mono play - Reading Between the Lines.”

Mr. Ahmed said at Zak India Carnival one can find amalgamation of small scale business groups and entrepreneurs from different walks of life. “It is a platform to enhance and stimulate their intellect and creative abilities, thereby evolving and empowering them.”
