Final photo rolls in a month’s time
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta has said the publication of final photo electoral rolls will take another month since there was a need to properly verify claims.
He reviewed the progress of summary revision of photo electoral rolls (with January 1 as the qualifying date). The overall percentage of images captured in relation to electorate size is 94 for the State. Chennai lags behind with 77 per cent, followed by Coimbatore (85 per cent) and Tiruvallur (87 per cent).
The coverage was low in Chennai because a large number of images were lost. A fresh schedule has been drawn up for Chennai beginning with Anna Nagar. It will take about three months to complete coverage for Chennai. In Tiruvallur and Coimbatore, passport size photos are being obtained for residual electors.
“While the initial verification of the claims and objections received has been completed by the field staff, the DEOs have been instructed to have the cases re-verified to eliminate chances of multiple and bogus entries. Further, claims received in respect of those whose names were deleted during the exercise of preparation of photo rolls on the ground that they were not residing in the registered address, need to be re-verified,” says a release from the CEO.
