Reaching out: Visitors have a look at the mobile banking unit of the SCDCC Bank.
MANGALORE: The South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank (SCDCC) will display its new mobile banking unit at the 100 years of cooperative movement in the country to be held at Mysore from Thursday. According to bank chairman M.N. Rajendra Kumar it is the first mobile banking unit in country. The unit built on a light commercial vehicle platform has been designed to function as a full fledged branch with a strong room, cashier cabin, clerical counter and is equipped to carry out fully computerised operations. The unit will travel across Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts and will be stationed in rural areas where people can utilise the facilities. Mr. Kumar said these units were yet to get clearance from the Reserve Bank of India to act as an independent branch. The bank has secured permission from the Co-operative Department. Mr. Kumar said the Royal Bank of Scotland had introduced such a facility in 1946. The two units are equipped with online security, surveillance cameras, airconditioning, posh interiors and seating arrangements for customers. The onboard computers will enable the head office at Mangalore to record and monitor the transactions.
