Tamil film Achchamundu… Achchamundu to be shot in the U.S.

Meera Srinivasan

CHENNAI: Fans of Tamil cinema cannot forget ace director K. Balachander’s Achchamillai… Achchamillai. No wonder then that one finds U.S.-based film maker Arun Vaidyanathan’s new project Achchamundu 230; Achchamundu intriguing.

Not that the director disagrees with Subramanya Bharathiar. Just that he deems the phrase an apt title for his suspense thriller.

The Tamil film, being produced by Om Cinemas USA Limited Liability Company and S.P.B. Charan’s Capital Film Works, will be shot entirely in the U.S. Actors Prasanna and Sneha will play the lead roles.

“We are going to shoot in New Jersey and New York. We plan to complete the entire film in 18 to 20 days,” says the director. Mr. Vaidyanathan left Chennai for the U.S. almost seven years ago as a software professional.

His passion for cinema made him pursue a course in film making at the New York Film Academy.

Experience

Though he had acquired some experience by working in Tamil television channels in Chennai earlier, the course equipped him to translate the ideas he had nourished for years into films.

“I started making short films across genres. I have made comedies and thrillers,” he says.

When his films won recognition in international festivals for short films, he gained more confidence: enough to tempt him into making a feature film.
