NEW DELHI: The Government on Wednesday assured the two Left parties that it will make available the text of the 123 agreement between India and the United States to enable the parties to react to it. At a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the CPI(M) and CPI demanded that unless they saw the text they were not in a position to react to the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal for which the final round of negotiations had just concluded in Washington, according to one of the Left leaders who attended the meeting. It is likely that the Government will have one more round of meeting with the Left leaders before Parliament session begins on August 10. Dr. Singh assured the Left parties that whatever points they had raised earlier relating to the deal the Government has tried to meet those. Dr. Singh said that all the requirements of India and all its interests had been met. The hour-long meeting was attended by Prakash Karat, general secretary of CPI(M), Sitaram Yechury CPI(M) MP and A.B. Bardhan general secretary of CPI and D. Raja, national secretary of CPI. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Foreign Secretary, Shivshankar Menon and National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan and Anil Kakodar of the AEC were also present. Both Mr. Menon and Mr. Narayanan explained in detail the negotiations which were conducted in Washington recently.
