New Delhi: Indian pugilists made a fine start at the fifth Commonwealth championship with Praveen Kumar winning the bronze and six others advancing to the medal rounds of the event at Liverpool, England. Praveen eventually lost in the 91kg semifinals and had to settle for a bronze after getting a bye in the quarterfinals. The Indian was thoroughly outpunched by Englishman D. Price in the semifinals before referee stopped the contest in the second round. The other Indians to enter the semifinals were Sunil Kumar (51kg), T. Nanao Singh (48kg), Santosh Singh (54kg), Manjit Singh (75kg), Pramoj Kumar (81kg), Baljeet (+91kg), Dilbagh Singh (64kg) and Suresh Kumar (69kg). — PTI
