HYDERABAD: Gowrishankar XI entered the semifinals of the Salar-e-Millat Challenge Cup prize money football tournament with a 2-0 win over Hyderabad Sporting XI at Quli Qutub Shah Stadium here on Wednesday. Sridhar scored the first goal in the eighth minute. In the second half, Sugeeth positioned himself well to receive a long-range pass from right-half. He then slotted the ball home thereby completing the tally just before the final whistle. In another quarterfinal, City College Old Boys recorded a 4-0 win over Gymkhana XI. Winger Azeem put CCOB ahead in the 12th minute off a cross from Naveed. Just before the break, Fareed struck to give CCOB a 2-0 lead. On resumption, CCOB slammed in two more goals through substitute Karrar and Fareed, who was later declared the ‘player of the match’. Easy for CCOB
City College Old Boys scored a 41-20 win over Hyderabad Public School in the Hyderabad district annual basketball league championship at City College here. C. Krishna Sagar of the Sports Authority of India (STC, Saroornagar) was adjudged ‘best player’ in the South Zone inter-SAI kabaddi championship in Kerala in which the Hyderabad team finished with a silver medal. By virtue of their performances in the above meet, three players — C. Krishna Sagar, A.Srinivas Reddy and K.Nuka Raju — were picked to represent South Zone in the all-India inter-SAI championship to be held in Sonepat (Haryana) from August 7, according to K.Prabhakar, Administrator of Saroornagar STC. The Krishna district athletics men’s team will take part in the AP senior inter-district athletic championship.
