2,000 houses damaged in monsoon fury

KOCHI: As many as 2,000 houses have been damaged in the district since the onset of monsoon in June first week. Out of this 70 houses have been fully damaged.

Kochi taluk, where 670 houses were affected, suffered the most. In Paravur taluk, 33 houses were fully damaged and 294 houses were partially damaged. There are 562 inmates in the remaining six relief camps operating in the taluk.

In Aluva taluk, four houses were fully damaged, while 225 houses were partially damaged. Among the severely hit places were Kodanad and Assamannoor.

In Kothamangalam taluk, three houses were fully damaged, while the number of partially damaged houses stood at 71. Kuttampuzha and Kadavur were among the worst hit.

In Muvattupuzha taluk, five houses were fully damaged, while 250 houses were partially damaged, with the worst hit being Marady, Valakom, Elanjy and Memury.

In Kanayannur taluk, almost 100 houses were partially damaged. Most of the damage was reported from Elamkulam, Edakattuvayal and Kadamakkudy villages.
