THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that operations for eviction of encroachers will resume on improvement of weather conditions in Munnar. Talking to presspersons after a Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said priority would be given to eviction of persons who had encroached upon land exceeding 50 acres. Clarifying the Left Democratic Front (LDF) State Committee decision on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said the decision was taken towards filing of affidavit in cases before the High Court. The Government stand would be that the titles issued with the approval of the land assignment committee with representatives of political parties in the State would be valid. However, the titles would be liable for cancellation if not used for the stated purposes (residential and agricultural purposes). The cases of office-cum-tourist resorts of the CPI and the CPI(M) would be examined. The Vigilance cases against officials would also be pursued. He said a committee had been appointed to study the report of the survey conducted by the National Remote Sensing Agency on land in possession of Kannan Devan Plantation Company (formerly Tata Tea Limited). There were some ambiguities in the findings and clarifications were needed.
