326 get loans

TIRUVARUR: The District Collector, Shambu Kallolikar, distributed loans to the tune of Rs. 4 crore arranged by the Indian Bank, as part of its centenary celebrations, to 326 beneficiaries here on Thursday. The loans were distributed to students, women self-help group members and farmers.
Mr. Kallolikar said that the loans would help empower women in rural areas.
While students would be able to pursue their higher studies, farmers would use the loan for taking up ‘samba’ cultivation. Tractors were also distributed to farmers at the function.
The Executive Director of the bank, A. Subramanian, said that the bank has done a business of Rs. 76,000 crore so far and was moving towards Rs. one lakh crore.
There are 14 branches of the bank in Tiruvarur district out of which nine are located in rural areas.
G. Charath Chandran, Director of Indian Bank, S. Sridharan, Circle Head, Indian Bank, Kumbakonam circle, K. Rajan, Deputy General Manager, Indian Bank, Thanjavur participated in the function.
