Online piracy threatening film industry

Even the latest Malayalam movies turn up online as free downloads

Piracy of a different kind is giving some tough times for the Malayalam film industry.

Producers of some of the recent movies like Inspector Garud were in for a shock when they saw their films freely available online.

The web site owners were even found to be encouraging viewers to download the movie from the website.

Milan Jaleel, president of the Kerala Film Producers’ Association, said that the latest menace would make dents in the overall revenue earned from a movie.

Producers would seek expert help on how to curb the trend of giving latest movies online, he said.
