Train halted by ‘sleepers’ on the track

Two tipplers who decided to take an afternoon nap on the railway tracks near the Melattur level-crossing on Wednesday brought a passenger train to a grinding halt.

Little did the driver of the Shoranur-Nilambur passenger train realise that he would have an uncalled for 10-minute interlude when he saw two persons lying on the tracks near Kumbharan Colony at Melattur in Malappuram district.

As soon as the driver stopped the train a crowd of onlookers gathered to ascertain the reason.

But the ‘track sleepers’ evoked little curiosity among the local people.

Instead, the angry people chose to deal with the tipplers rather roughly.

Both were forcibly pulled off the tracks from their siesta and given a stern warning: any such ‘traffic disruption’ in future will invite harsher treatment from them.

Those who have a proclivity towards unusual sleeping places like railway tracks please take note, the consequences are dire.
