4 advocates held for attack on policemen

TIRUNELVELI: The Courtallam police have arrested four advocates for allegedly attacking policemen, including a Sub-Inspector, near Old Falls at Courtallam in the small hours of Thursday.

When some police personnel who had been posted at Old Falls on special duty tried to prevent a group of persons from indulging in nuisance, they allegedly attacked the police personnel and reportedly damaged a police outpost there.

After people informed the Courtallam police station of the incident, more policemen were rushed to the spot. The attackers were identified as S. Velusamy (30) of Sivakalai in Tuticorin district, A. Poonkumar (25) of Paulpandi Nagar, Tuticorin, A. Ignatius (41) of Vellaipatti near Tuticorin, and A. Marx (33) of Masilamanipuram, Tuticorin. The advocates were later released on bail. — Staff Reporter
