Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has said that Mother Teresa Institute of Health Sciences (MTIHS) will be converted into a University of Para Medical Sciences. Distributing prizes to students and staff of the institute on its Annual Day here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that the palatial campus on which the institute was now functioning also offered good scope for accommodating all wings and departments of a university. The institute was offering courses in nursing, physiotherapy, medical lab technology and pharmacy. Students doing degree courses were getting a monthly stipend of Rs.500, while those in the diploma stream were given Rs.300 a month. Mr. Rangasamy released a book on “Pathophysiology of Common Diseases” written by Professor of Pharmacy S. Kavimani.
