Legal action to be taken against polluting units

HYDERABAD: Admitting that highly dangerous pollution-causing chemicals were being dumped in the Government forest lands at Jeedimetla area, Forests and Environment Minister S.Vijayarama Raju said that legal action was being initiated against 93 industries after analysis of samples of hazardous waste. Replying to a question by G. Kishan Reddy (BJP) in the Assembly on Thursday, he said that the entire hazardous waste of 1,180 tons dumped in Dhulapally, near Jeedimetla was lifted to the Hyderabad Waste Management Project (TSDF) for treatment and disposal.
Proposal
Marketing Minister M. Mareppa told S.Udaya Bhanu that a proposal was in the initial stage to modernise check posts located on the national highways (NH) to ensure proper collection of market cess. It was proposed to computerise the check posts.
Municipal Administration Minister Koneru Ranga Rao admitted that there was a shortage of staff in several municipal corporations and municipalities in the State.
He informed T. Padma Rao (TRS) and others that the Government was examining the proposal for uniform staffing pattern in different categories of urban local bodies.
There are no desks for students of 9th and 10th classes in as many as 2,341 schools in the State.
This was stated by School Education Minister in a written answer given to S. Sailajanath.
He informed the member that it was under consideration to provide desks to all the schools having 10th class examination in two years.
