ACA to push for Test status for Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Andhra Cricket Association will try to get Test status for Visakhapatnam, its North Zone office-bearers at a press conference said here on Thursday.

The BCCI was sounded about allotting a Test match to Visakhapatnam (to be held at the ACA-VDCA Stadium) in the past but a written request would be made now. Then the other factors like the ICC match referee’s report on the ODIs and a three-day tour match held in the past and the available facilities would be taken into consideration, said ACA vice-president P.R. Narayanaswami.

However, Visakhapatnam was the most likely venue for the ODI to be allotted to ACA during the England’s team’s tour to India this year, considering the good facilities like a modern stadium, accommodation, air connectivity, etc., available here, he said.

ACA treasurer P. Appala Raju of Vizianagaram, another vice-president D.V.S.S. Somayajulu of Visakhapatnam and secretary of North Zone of ACA N. Prabhakar Rao of Srikakulam also participated in the press conference.

The new set of office-bearers elected during elections held in Vijayawada on July 21 would make efforts to conduct coaching camps and organise matches at all places to tap the talent available in small towns and rural areas, they said. — Special Correspondent
