Chennai: Indian Bank scored a ten-wicket win over Eagle CC on the third day of the fourth round in the TNCA first division league. Left-arm paceman V. Rajnikant claimed five for 63 at MAC on Thursday as Eagle, following on, was dismissed for 193. T. Karunamurthy made 62 (78b, 11x4). Set a target of 17, Indian Bank was home in the third over. Earlier in the day, Eagle was bowled out for 159 in its first innings; paceman P. Satish scalped five batsmen. Wilkins Victor remained unbeaten on 53 (60b, 9x4, 1x6). Jolly Rovers off-spinner R. Ashwin returned his third five-wicket innings haul of the season at the IIT-Chemplast ground but determined efforts from opener N. Einstein (85, 183b, 11x4), S. Sharath (87, 190b, 12x4, 1x5) and Sree Kumar Nair (43) prevented the host from securing the lead. Replying to Rovers’ 417, Vijay was 309 for seven when play concluded. Left-arm paceman S. Tilak’s six for 82 was instrumental in Globe Trotters dismissing IOB for 279 at the MRF-Pachaiyappa’s ground, gaining a 158-run lead in the process. Tilak was supported by paceman S.K. Balaji, who took three wickets. For IOB, A.S.K. Varma top-scored with 73 (143b, 11x4), Promod Doss made 67 (146b, 12x4) while K. Sriram remained unbeaten with 46. Arun Karthik shines
In an exciting last session, Grand Slam, responding to India Pistons’ 348 for nine decl., was 328 for eight when the contest ended. Arun Karthik (90, 146b, 11x4) and S. Suresh Kumar (51, 124b, 7x4) raised 96 for the third wicket in 18.5 overs. Skipper J.R. Madanagopal contributed a busy 65 (62b, 8x4, 1x6). For Pistons, off-spinner M. Prabhu and left-arm spinner C. Suresh shared six wickets between them. Aruna, for whom C. Hemant Kumar (90, 199b, 10x4) and Shyam Sundar (38) added 60 in a crucial eighth wicket stand, secured the lead over Young Stars at the RKM-Vivekananda ground. Aruna was eventually dismissed for 338, a lead of 45 runs. For Young Stars K. Srinivasan picked up six wickets. Parry’s gained a 25-run lead over Alwarpet, bowled out for 201, at the SRMC ground. Left-arm spinner S. Senthil Kumar prised out four batsmen. In Parry’s 144 for three in the second innings, S. Ashwin made 63 (169b, 7x4).
