dated July 27, 1957: Advice to Ministers

The need for economy and toning up of the administration was stressed by the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister at their informal meeting with junior Ministers in New Delhi on July 26. The Prime Minister also underlined the need for junior Ministers to avoid “loose talk” in discussing Government policies. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence, was attended by all non-Cabinet Ministers and was the first of its kind. While junior Ministers, even now, individually meet the Prime Minister and other senior Ministers, they have never met together to discuss common problems.
