BHUBANESWAR: ArcelorMittal Chief Executive L. N. Mittal on Thursday said his company’s proposed 12 million tonne steel plant project in Orissa was progressing faster than its 10 million tonne project in neighbouring Jharkhand. Mr. Mittal, who attended a review meeting on his Orissa project here in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and top officials of the State, said the government assured him all support for the steel plant project. “I am happy over the progress achieved on the project since signing of the memorandum of understanding with the Orissa Government in December last year,” Mr. Mittal said after the meeting at the State Secretariat. Replying to a query, Mr. Mittal said that they discussed about all aspects of the steel mill. Mr. Mittal said the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed plant would be ready by the middle of next year. The Chief Minister was keen on the implementation of the steel project, Mr. Mittal said. The project would be implemented in two phases of six million tonnes each at a total cost of Rs. 40,000 crore, Mr. Mittal said.
