Sensex recovers
MUMBAI: Hectic short-coverings in select heavyweight counters on the last day of July series helped the stock markets to buck the weak Asian trend on Thursday as the benchmark BSE Sensex recovered smartly by 76.98 points.
Rolling over positions to next August contract by retail investors and operators as well as excellent quarter results announced by some key companies also boosted market sentiment.
Oil and gas, realty, auto, health care and IT shares were at the forefront while capital goods, banking and consumer durable counters showed marked to moderate gains at close.
Fag-end buying led the Sensex to end at 15776.31 against Wednesday’s close of 15699.33. The S&P CNX Nifty of also recouped by 31.10 points to 4619.80. — PTI
