PSG CAS bags double

Coimbatore: PSG College of Arts and Science clinched both the men’s and women’s table tennis titles in the Coimbatore Inter-collegiate Athletic Association games tournament at the varsity premises here on Thursday.

The results: Men: Hockey (final): MCPE bt PSG CAS 6-5. Semifinals: MCPE bt PSG Tech 6-5; PSG CAS bt Karunya 6-0. Basketball: MCPE 57 bt PSG Tech 27; PSG CAS 57 bt Sri Ramakrishna EC 11; Amrita SE 2 5 bt CMC 8; CMS 32 bt SNMV 31; Bharathiar University Dept. 42 bt Parks EC 33. Table tennis: Final: PSG CAS bt PSG Tech 3-0. Semifinals: PSG Tech bt Amrita 3-2; PSG CAS 3-1 bt Karunya 3-1.

Women (all final): Chess: 1. PSGR Krishnammal 17.5 pts; 2. PSG Tech 13.5 pts. Handball: Bharathiar University Dept. bt Nirmala College 8-7. Table tennis: PSG CAS bt Karunya 3-0.

Kikani HSS in final

Kikani HSS brushed aside the challenge of Swami Sivananda HSS 44-41 to enter the junior boys’ final in the 53rd YMCA basketball tournament for the S. Venkatakrishnan Trophy at the YMCA courts in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

In the final, Kikani will take on Stanes AIHSS, which defeated Rajalakshmi Mills HSS 71-43.

The results: Semifinals: Kikani HSS 44 (Shyaam 15, Srivatsan 11) bt Swami Sivananda HSS 41 (Paratha Sarathi 18); Stanes AIHSS 71 (Gopi Krishna 16, Vishnu 11) bt Rajalakshmi Mills HSS 43 (Mohanraj 20).

Junior athletics

The sixth Erode District junior athletics championship, jointly organised by the Erode District Athletics Association and the Erode Sports Trust, will be held at the VOC Park Stadium in Erode on July 27 and 28. Contact M. Govindaraju, EDAA secretary at 98940-74104.

JK Tyre Rotax Max karting challenge

The third round of the JK Tyre Rotax Max karting challenge will be held at the Kari Motor Speedway circuit at Chettipalayam near here on July 28.

It’s going to be an open contest in both the senior and junior categories with the top three being separated by a thin margin. At the end of the second round, Ameya Walavalkar of Mumbai is atop the leader board in the senior class with 171 points. Trailing him by just a point is Chennai’s Aditya Patel. Rayomand Banajee of Pune is close on his heels with 167 points.

Kolhapur youngsters Chittesh Mandody (85.5 points) and Parth Ghorpade (83 points) lead the junior table followed by Chennai’s Vishnu Prasad in the third spot with 82 points.

Badminton tournament

The Erode District ranking badminton tournament, organised by the Erode District Badminton Association, will be held at the Yaley Club in Erode from July 27 to 29.
