It felt as much as a victory: Vaughan

Special Correspondent

Nottingham: Michael Vaughan has a perfect record as captain at Trent Bridge: three wins from three Tests.

He spoke to the media before the second Test, starting here on Friday.

(Excerpts):

On the Lord’s draw: It felt as much as a victory with the way we played, the positive manner in which we went about our cricket and the way the young bowlers gave an excellent display.

On getting in India’s face: I don’t think there was any more so in that game than there was in the series against West Indies. We are trying to play our cricket with a real intensity about it and that involves being a littl e bit aggressive. It’s not untoward in the game of cricket, we’re just trying to hit the pitch hard and hit the right areas and try and really rally around in the field.

On the chatter with Sourav Ganguly and Dinesh Karthik: It wasn’t a great deal, just a bit of talking after play seeing how he was going to play in the morning, that was all. I didn’t hear Karthik say anything. It was just a bit of playful banter.

On Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar: They are obviously key players and very good players and you know with good players they’ll always bounce back. They will have worked in the nets over the last couple of days even if it was i ndoors and they will be coming out at Trent Bridge trying to get a good start and get a big score behind them. Our plans are trying to make sure they don’t settle, try and attack them early.

On the choice of Tremlett at Lord’s: It was gut instinct. Bounce to any batsman in the world is very hard to face, but we felt the Indians in particular weren’t as used to the steep bounce as many batsmen because of the wic kets they play on in India. It was just an instinct that maybe his bounce could be the difference.
