Chief Minister N. Rangasamy had announced that it would start functioning from this year There was no mention of the college in the counselling for B.E. and B.Tech. admissions
KARAIKAL: Students of Karaikal district in the Union Territory of Puducherry are disappointed as there is no sign of a Government engineering college getting started in Karaikal from this academic year as announced by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. A large number of students and parents were happy when Mr. Rangasamy announced that the college would be established in Karaikal. It was to be located in the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute building or in the Government Polytechnic before getting shifted to its own building next year. The Chief Minister had instructed the Karaikal Collector to find a site for the college building. Students were shocked when there was no mention of the college in the counselling for B.E. and B.Tech. admissions conducted in Puducherry. The Education Minister, M.O.H.F. Shajahan, told a delegation of students on Wednesday that there was no scope for starting the college this year as the papers were pending with the Government. A. M. H. Nazeem (DMK), the Karaikal MLA and Leader of the Opposition in Puducherry Assembly, expressed his disappointment as the Chief Minister had failed to keep his promise. He said that it was a big embarrassment to then Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam which was part of the coalition backing the Congress Government in the Union Territory.
