They dismantle the parts of the vehicle and sell them as spare parts
BERHAMPUR: Motorcycle lifters have started to change their modus operandi to escape from being caught. They prefer to send the stolen bike at least 200 km away from the spot of theft to escape immediate recognition. They are no more interested to sell the bikes as whole to escape detection. They are dismantling the parts of the vehicle and selling them as spare parts for better profit. At times the whole engines of four stroke bikes are being sold out of the state to be used in small boats for marine fishing. Three youths arrested
On July 23 a motorcycle of Brajabandhu Dalbehera was stolen from the city while it was parked in front of the railway station. After a day it was seized by Bhubaneswar police from Kharavelanagar area. Three youths involved in this theft were arrested. These youths usually stole bikes from places far off places to bring them to Bhubaneswar to escape the eyes of police at the place where it was stolen. In the second week of this month the Bidyanathpur police station of the city had arrested three motorcycle lifters. But police could not seize any vehicles from them as they did not have any intact motorcycles with them. According to Inspector In-charge of Baidyanathpur police station P.N.Majhi, these bike thieves were transferring the bikes stolen by them to secluded places to dismantle them. Then they were selling the parts separately.
