Lakhs witness Lord’s return journey

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: On the last leg of the world famous car festival, Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra were decorated with special golden ornaments as lakhs of devotees witnessed the event on Thursday.

The rituals, popularly known as ‘Suna Besha’, began at about 5 p.m. when special servitors dress the deities with traditional ornaments. The festival is observed on Ekadashi, the 11th day of the Rath Jatra, after arrival of the deities at the Lions Gate from their aunt’s temple.

Devotees swarmed from different parts of the State since morning. On the occasion of Suna Besha, the deities were adorned with rare jewels and artificial limbs besides their respective weaponry made of pure gold. Police made a special arrangement to make the festival pass off smoothly. Vehicular movement was monitored from a distance of 10 km.
