BHUBANESWAR: A number of prominent women’s organisations on Thursday demanded immediate action against all those who were involved in the female foeticide racket in Nayagarh and other parts of the State. At a press conference here, the women activists demanded that the State government fix the responsibility. The different departments and government bodies concerned should be activated and made to discharge their duties, they said. The activists who jointly addressed the press conference include Asha Hans of Sanskriti, Tapasi Praharaj of All Indian Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and Bishakha Bhanja of National Alliance of Women’s Organisations (NAWO). Expressing concern over the declining child sex ratio in the State, primarily in the coastal districts, the activists said that the recovery of female foetuses and infants body parts in Nayagarh was only the tip of the iceberg. “Such incidents are taking place in almost all districts in Orissa state,” Ms. Bhanja observed.
