Fun time: Seniors and juniors of M.A Journalism and Mass Communication having a jig at the Freshers’ Day on the ANU campus on Friday. —
GUNTUR: It was a fun-filled day for students of M.A (Journalism and Mass Communication) of Acharya Nagarjuna University, as they sang and danced to their heart’s content at the Freshers’ Day party held on the campus. While the occasion provided an opportunity for the first year students to shed their blues and freely interact with their seniors, the seniors, on their part, regaled their juniors by singing, dancing, mimicry shows etc. The cultural programmes held after the introductory programme broke the ice between the students. Showing their prowess in classical dance, Aruna Soujanya and Satya, first year students, delighted the audience. Sarath, a student of final year, too joined the fun setting the dance floor on fire. D.H.N.N.V. Satyanarayana took an ace out of his sleeve and performed a stunning mimicry show that had the audience in splits. Earlier, university Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohandas exhorted the students to imbibe the qualities of good journalist and reflect on the contemporary events. Suggesting a few measures to strengthen the department, he mooted that students could report on the developments of each department daily and send press releases to newspapers. The practice could hone their journalistic skills, he said. Responding positively to a suggestion to provide laptops to students, he said that he would discuss the modalities with bank authorities and said that students of M.B.A and M.C.A too could be given laptops with financial assistance from the banks. Newsletter
He said that the Department of Journalism would soon be entrusted with the job of producing the university quarterly newsletter and produce quality programmes for All India Radio and Doordarshan. He also asked the students to bring out a book on the biographies of some prominent journalists of the country with each student selecting one journalist of repute. Placement cell coordinator and professor in business management G. Prasad asked the students to keep themselves abreast of developmental activities and specialise in developmental journalism. Course coordinator A. Subramaniyam said that the grants had been released to set up a full-fledged studio and the department had recently procured cameras. University College principal M.K. Durga Prasad, vice-principal Nirmala Mary, Officer on Special Duty N. Samuel and others were present.
