Explore Leh on bicycles

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Do you have the passion to cycle? Then, pack your backpack and get set to explore the breathtaking Leh-Ladakh region on bicycles.

This opportunity has been provided by Rotary Mysore Midtown Adventure Foundation and International Academy of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, as part of Independence Day celebrations.

A team will go on the National Himalayan Mountain Biking Expedition-2007 in the high altitude region of Leh-Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir from August 31 to September 21, 2007.

The expedition is organised by Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI), New Delhi.

Ladakh is a paradise for adventure buffs because of the mountain ranges. It has four main ranges — Zanskar, Ladakh, Karakoram and the Greater Himalaya. The most important feature of trekking in Ladakh is its high mountain passes which criss-cross the trekking routes, thereby providing an opportunity to view breathtaking mountains and amazing landscapes, according to D.S.D. Solanki, public relations officer, Rotary Mysore Midtown.

“The small isolated villages and hamlets, and friendly people make your trek memorable,” he said.

The participants should be studying in PU colleges and above. There are only five vacancies and reservation will be made on first-cum-first-served basis only.

The last date to register for the expedition is July 30 at the first floor, Rotary Mysore Midtown, JLB Road, Mysore.

YHAI, New Delhi, the organisers of the expedition, will provide necessary items such as mountain bicycle, helmet, knee cap, elbow guard, bicycle riding gloves etc., said Mr. Solanki.

For registration and details Mr. Solanki can be called on 9845116835.
