DHARWAD: As many as 850 artistes will participate in the two-day “Samata Sambhrama” cultural festival being organised here from Saturday with the objective of showcasing Dalit art and culture. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar said that arrangements for the festival had been made. Fifty-five troupes would participate in the event to be held at Dr. Mallikarjun Mansur Kalabhavan, Vidyavardhak Sangha and R.H. Deshpande Kalabhavan. Seminars, “kaavya gayana” and “kavigoshti” programmes would also be held. The festival was being held on the lines of “zilla utsav” and local artistes had been given priority while finalising the programmes, he said. Jatha
The Deputy Commissioner said that the festival would begin with a “Kala Jatha”. Accommodation and food for artistes had been arranged and remuneration for troupes would be paid through cheques. The State Government had released Rs. 8 lakh for the event, he added. He appealed to the people of the district to make the event a success.
