Samiti to support ‘Vidhana Soudha chalo’ July 25 is deadline for withdrawal of circulars
Madikeri: A.K. Subbaiah, who is leading the “Bane Hakku Horata Samiti” to secure rights over “bane” land to the people of the district, on Friday criticised Codava National Council (CNC) leader N.U. Nachappa, who is set to seek solutions to the vexed issue through the intervention of the Centre, and said that it amounted to misleading the people of Kodagu. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Subbaiah said Articles 370 and 371 would in no way help in resolving the district’s unique “bane” land problems. ‘Self-styled leader’
Mr. Nachappa had donned the role of a self-styled, self-proclaimed leader of Kodagu whereas he did not enjoy the support of the Kodavas or the other communities in Kodagu, he said. Instead of moving in a different direction, Mr. Nachappa should join the mainstream struggle, he said. Mr. Subbaiah asserted that the samiti would extend support to the proposed July 30 “Vidhana Soudha chalo” in Bangalore convened by “Kodagu Asthitva Horata Samiti” to urge the State Government to withdraw the controversial revenue circulars issued by the Principal Secretary, Revenue, on October 31, 2006 and again with regard to land conversions on January 16, 2007. The “Kodagu Asthitva Horatra Samiti” had made it a Bangalore-centred struggle following it up on the success of the July 2 Kodagu bandh organised by the “Bane Hakku Rakshana Samiti”. Welcome move
It was a welcome move, Mr. Subbaiah said. He hailed the Bangalore samiti for organising the movement in a big way by mobilising support in Kodagu and Bangalore. Asked what would happen if the Government withdrew the controversial circulars before July 30, Mr. Subbaiah said that it would be left to the “Kodagu Asthitva Horata Samiti” to decide on further action. The samiti had set July 25 as the deadline for withdrawal. Struggle
The “Bane Hakku Rakshana Samiti” would continue its struggle seeking rights over trees grown in the land owned by the people, correction of erroneous RTC entries and so on. Tree Rights
However, once the land rights were granted, landowners would get tree rights automatically, he added. Leaders of “Bane Hakku Horata Samiti” Nanda Subbaiah, Durgaprasad, B.T. Pradeep, Neravanda Umesh, B.S. Thammaiah, Prabhakar, Harish, and Dinesh were present.
