Loss estimated at Rs. 35 crore Rs. 4 crore already released for relief work
Raichur: Manoharan, Director (Tobacco) in the Union Ministry of Agriculture, as part of the Central team visiting the State, arrived here on Friday and inspected some of the flood-affected villages in Raichur, Manvi and Lingsugur taluks in the district. Mr. Manoharan, along with officials from the district, inspected irrigation tanks in Kudlur and Ganjalli villages as well as a bridge near Naglapur village in Raichur which suffered heavy damage due to recent rainfall. Memorandum submitted
A group of farmers approached Mr.Manoharan when he reached Kudlur village, and submitted a memorandum detailing various problems faced by them. Mr.Manoharan also inspected a bridge near Buddinni village in Raichur taluk that had suffered damage on account of heavy rain. Upon completion of inspection, he proceeded to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, where he convened a meeting of district officials on a report submitted by the district administration with regard to the loss of life and property. The Deputy Commissioner, who submitted a detailed report to Mr.Manoharan, said that the district administration had estimated the loss of public and private property at Rs.35 crore apart from the death of 12 people. A detailed report had already been submitted to the State Government. So far, the State Government had released Rs.4 crore to enable conduct of relief work in the affected areas of the district. It had already released the requisite compensation to the relatives of the deceased, and had instructed the officials concerned to expedite relief work without delay. Mr. Manoharan said he would submit a report based on his findings to his superiors after reaching Bangalore, who would submit the final report to the Union Government on Monday. Official in Bijapur
Bijapur Staff Correspondent reports: Ashok Mehta, Deputy Director for Rural Development, deputed by the Union Government, visited some of the flood-hit villages along the Don, a tributary of the Krishna on Friday. Mr. Mehta, who visited Ukumnal, Tonshyal, Gotyal, Donur and Sarwad in Bijapur Rural said he would be filing report soon after his return New Delhi early next week. Assistant Commissioner Y.S. Patil and Joint Director of Agriculture Mohammad Jabiulla gave details of the damage caused by the river that overflowed on June 23. Tikota MLA M.B. Patil, under whose segment these villages fall, said besides compensation for damages of crop and properties there was a need to fund the reclamation of land along the river that had been eroded severely.
