UNDP-funded programme to conclude soon The Government will have to continue the programme
BELLARY: Deputy Commissioner Arvind Srivastav, who is the Chairman of Bellary district AIDS Prevention Society, said that all HIV/AIDS prevention projects being implemented in the district had to be evaluated. This was because CHARACA (Coordinated HIV/AIDS Response through Capacity building) sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) would end soon. Speaking at a review meeting here on Thursday evening, he said the HIV/AIDS prevention programmes had to be continued with the help of various departments, including Health and gram panchayats in future. Vandana Gurnani, Executive Director of Karnataka Health Promotion Trust (KHPT), said the activities were being implemented through KHPT-BMGF (Bill Gates and Millinda Gates Foundation) in the district. Mohan Raj, Joint Director of Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS) and Alka Narang of CHARACA spoke. Jaikumar, BDAPS coordinator; Pampapati, District Surgeon, Surendra Nayak, Medical Officer Anti-Retroviral Theraphy (ART) Centre Bellary; Veerendra Kumar, Secretary, Indian Medical Association; and representatives of other departments and non-governmental organisations participated in the discussion. Nizamuddin, District Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS Nodal Officer, welcomed the gathering. Tarsalappa, District Health Officer, proposed a vote of thanks.
