Order to attach AC’s office

DHARWAD: Staff of the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Dharwad district found themselves in an embarrassing situation here on Friday when an advocate approached them with an order attaching their office for failing to pay the enhanced compensation for the land acquired from two women.

However, they were relieved after the counsel agreed to give them a month for payment of compensation after the shirastedar sought time.

According to official sources, here two acres and two guntas of land was acquired for construction of a road leading to Hubli airport in 1992 from Iramma Virupakshagouda Patil and Jayamma Shridhar Kubusagouda of Gokul village and a compensation of Rs. 51,123 was paid. However, Iramma and Jayamma sought more compensation and approached the Hubli Civil Court.

On September 13, 2006, the court issued an order in favour of the petitioners and asked the Assistant Commissioner to pay the enhanced compensation. But when their repeated attempts failed to get compensation, they approached the court again resulting in the order attaching the office for the compensation of Rs. 1.37 crore, including interest.
