DTC terminals to serve as parking lots

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In a move aimed at easing congestion on the roads, the Delhi Transport Corporation has decided to open up all its 13 terminals for parking by private buses and light commercial vehicles.

DTC Chairman and Managing Director Anshu Prakash said on Thursday that the move was aimed at easing congestion and also earning additional revenue for the Corporation. Parking at the terminals would be allowed between 10-30 p.m. and 6 a.m. and the monthly charge would be Rs.1,000 per vehicle.

The DTC expects the facility to be used by at least 300 vehicles every day.

Mr. Prakash said the space outside various bus depots would also be developed into parking lots for private vehicles and this would also go a long way in addressing the Capital’s parking problem.

Parking outside the depots would be allowed during daytime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. and the charge would be Rs. 10 per entry for cars and Rs. 5 per entry for two-wheelers. The monthly charge will be Rs. 250 and Rs. 125 respectively for these two categories of vehicles.

Inside the depots, too, the DTC would be allowing parking of vehicles to Government employees and those working in public sector undertakings, autonomous organisations and corporates.
