CHANDIGARH: Haryana Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana has been named the new president of the State unit of the Congress and Kuldeep Sharma has been appointed working president in place of Rajya Sabha MP Ram Parkash, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced here on Friday. Mr.Mullana has resigned from the Cabinet, he added.
Mr. Hooda told media persons that these appointments had been made by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The Haryana unit of the Congress had no full-fledged president for the past several months after former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal resigned from the post. Dr. Ram Parkash, who had been appointed working president even during Mr. Bhajan Lal’s tenure, had been looking after the party affairs.
Mr. Hooda was all praise for the organisational capabilities of Mr. Mullana and said that he would work whole time for the party unit and the appointment of Mr. Sharma as working president would provide him additional help in strengthening the party.
